The history of our church reflect the intention of the people for over one
hundred thirty years to establish the Christian faith firmly in community life.
Methodists in our area first met for
worship in 1847 in the new Sand Lake School. In 1873, the First Methodist
Episcopal Church was organized in Monaville. It was known as the
Centennial Church and was dedicated on December 12th, 1876. With the
coming of the railroad and the growth of the new village of Lake Villa, it was
dismantled and moved there sixteen years later. Many of the original
timbers were used in the "Little Church on the Hill" built in
1892. The church still stands today at the corner of Cedar and Milwaukee
Avenues and is a private residence.
Our current church building at 110
McKinley Avenue was constructed in 1958 to provide for a growing
congregation. Contemporary and unique with it's lovely stained glass
windows, shown here, and tall cross on the brick facade, it will be a source of
inspiration as long as there are those who love Christ and his Church.
Although located in the village of
Lake Villa on McKinley Avenue just south of Grand Avenue (Route 132), our church
membership comes from the surrounding areas of Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Antioch, Fox
Lake, Ingleside, and Round Lake communities. Our diverse congregation is
made up of both young and mature families and seniors.
