“A Community of Faith, Family and Friends”
Pastor: Rev.
Robert N. Sathuri

There comes a point of time in all our
lives where changes take place, transitions occur and there are adjustments
that one makes. Even in the life of the
Church this happens. And it is important
for us, as members of the body of Christ, to know that we are all called to
carry forward, the work of taking the Good News of the Gospel forward in the
midst of changes, transitions and adjustments.
Apostle Paul, writing to the Church at
Now the body is not made up of one part
but of many. If the foot should say,
“because I am not a
hand, I do not belong to the body”, it would not for that reason cease to be
part of the body And if the ear should
say, “because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body”, it would not for
that reason cease to be part of the body.
If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would
the sense of smell be? But, in fact, God
has arranged the parts in the body, everyone of them, just as he wanted them to
be.
If they were all one
part, where would the body be? As it is,
there are many parts, but one body.
The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t
need you!” And the head cannot say to
the feet, “ I don’t need you!” On the
contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and
the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are
treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special
treatment. But God has combined the members
of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it so that there should be no division in the
body but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers
with it, and if one
part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
Now you are the body of Christ, and each
one of you is a part of it. And in the
Church, God has appointed . . . apostles
. . . prophets . . . teachers . . . workers of miracles . . . gifts of healing,
those able to help
others . . . administration . . . different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles?
. . . prophets? . . . teachers? Do
all work miracles? Do all have gifts of
healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? But all eagerly desire to use their given
gifts as members of the body of Christ.
(NIV)
Paul, in his explanation of the
expectations of the members of the body of Christ, is reminding us, the Lake
Villa UMC family, that each one of us is given special gifts. We are arranged, combined and wrapped
together by God, for Christ’s purposes.
We are many types of individuals, with
multiple gifts and abilities, and as the members of Christ’s Body, are called
to use them to build His Church.
Sometimes I hear people tell me, Pastor, I do not have any gifts to
share. We have Paul reminding us that
even if our gift is small, insignificant or inconspicuous, it is valuable in
the hands of God.
As believers in Jesus, let us not neglect
to use our talents, gifts and potential to serve one another and strengthen
each other, and grow in faith. Let us
make every effort to do so, so that when people look at the
I remain your brother
in Christ,
Pastor Robert
