My Dear Beloved Members and Friends of the household of God at Lake Villa

 

I bring greetings of grace and peace to you from God Almighty, Jesus Christ our Savior, and the Holy Spirit , our Counselor.

 

Teresa and I are surrounded by boxes to unpack, furniture to arrange and getting the parsonage and office in presentable shape.   I write this Pastor’s Page in the midst of all the hectic demands of moving, unloading and unpacking.

It is a joy, honor and privilege to serve Christ and His Church here at Lake Villa UMC.  We come with a lot of excitement, hope and enthusiasm, trusting God that as we journey together, our lives will be touched, blessed and built on the “solid rock” – Jesus Christ.  We believe that Christ’  Holy Spirit, will empower us to follow in the illustrious footsteps and stand on the strong shoulders of all the  “saints” who have journeyed before us, and those of us who are here at Lake Villa UMC.

 

Teresa and my favorite passage of scripture is from Hebrews 12: vs. 1-2

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

 

There are 3 important themes the writer of Hebrews is calling God’s people to consider.

 

1.      We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. You and I, we are

living in the illustrious company of all those who have been through these sacred doors of Lake Villa UMC.  All of them who have gone on ahead, finished their life’s journey, are at eternal rest and are watching us live out our faith.

 

2.      We need to set aside every weight and sin.  God in Christ is calling us

           to set aside things that weigh us down; things that are not pleasing in

           the sight of God.  We need to discard some old habits, some old same

           old stuff, we never done it that way before approach . . . .and

 

3.      Let us run with perseverance the race set before us, looking unto

     Jesus.  We are invited by Christ’s Holy Spirit to continue on our faith’s

      journey of moving onto perfection, looking at Jesus the Christ, our

      friend, guide,  counselor, and perfecter of our faith.

 

As we look at our purpose, our mission, and our vision for Lake Villa UMC, I’m thrilled, excited and delighted to be here and serve, with and among each one of you in the name of Jesus Christ.

 

Teresa and I are so looking forward to meeting each one of you, getting to know you and learn from you.  We are eager to serve every child, youth and adult of our Lake Villa UMC community of faith, families and friends.

 

 

Please feel free to call us, stop by at the parsonage and church office any time.  In our Indian culture, tradition and practice, you do not have to call before you come.  Just come to the door, we will be delighted to see you all!
