Lake Villa United Methodist Church

A Community of Faith, Family and Friends

Pastor:   Rev. Robert N. Sathuri

The month of July has slipped away so quickly, that it is hard to believe that Teresa and I have been with our Lake Villa family for a month.  We are thrilled, delighted and excited to be serving Christ and His Church.  We have been able to meet many of you at worship and at some of the cottage meetings, and are looking forward to meeting all of our church family.  Please feel free to call on us or invite us to your home, or we will show up at your door ~ [we’ll call before we come for sure.]

One of Jesus’ parables that many of us know since we may have been in Sunday School, Confirmation, Bible Studies, or in Sermons is about the “Good Samaritan”.  Jesus tells this to his disciples and it’s recorded in Luke 12: verses 25-37.  It’s about a man who went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and he was robbed of his money, beaten, bloody, and left as good as dead.  A priest and a levite passed that way and did not bother to care or help, he was left alone.  They just ignored the man lying on the street and walked away.  But a Samaritan . . . when he saw the bruised and battered man, had compassion, and went to him, bound up the wounds, poured oil and wine, and then took him to the safety and security of an inn.  The Samaritan went beyond the call of duty and spent his time, energy and resources, and made sure that the man was given another chance to live.

As I look at our purpose, mission and vision of Lake Villa UMC, each one of us is called by Christ to be “a Good Samaritan”.  There are people who belong to our faith family whom we need to go to, some may have stayed away from church for reasons best known to them.  There may be others who may have had feelings hurt, whose wounds need to be bound up.  Some others need to be showered with love and caring because nobody cared for them, even when they visited the church for worship.  There may be some who need to be brought back into the safety and security of our faith family.  My prayer is that each one of us will heed to the call of Christ “to go and do likewise” as the Good Samaritan did.  Will we?

I Remain Your Brother in Christ,

Pastor Robert Sathuri
